From the Director of Careteam+

Friends of Careteam+,

We are deeply concerned about the President’s proposed budget and you should be too. The funding cuts propose $1.7 Trillion over the next 10 years to significant programs including the Children’s Health Insurance Program, Medicare, Social Security Disability Insurance, food stamps, Medicaid ($610M) and Ryan White ($59M-HIV AIDS treatment and Prevention), just to name a few. President Trump specifically and repeatedly stated that he would not decrease social security benefits and yet…. Health programs for the elderly and disabled will suffer significantly with this budget. There is a common misconception about federal support of health and social welfare programs, that most of those services go to people “who are just too lazy to work…and need to start being responsible for themselves.” Old people and children don’t get to eat or see a doctor based on how much money they earn. We cannot live in a society that decides who eats and who receives healthcare.

The people in Washington making decisions about healthcare are not people who have ever had to worry about whether they could afford to see a doctor or receive treatment. They have never worried about how to physically get to a doctor or a treatment center. They have never had to leave a minimum wage job where they don’t receive medical benefits or sick leave to go see a doctor knowing that they will receive less money in their pay checks. They have never had to decide about paying for a medication or paying the power bill. Most of our members of congress are millionaires who never think about spending money for things they need and probably rarely think about spending money for things they want but don’t need.

They need your input. Please contact your representatives today and let them know that food and healthcare are not/should not be negotiable budget items. Those are human rights.
