July 28 is World Hepatitis Day

While July may be the month to celebrate America’s independence, it is also the month to raise awareness of Hepatitis.

Through the work of the World Health Organization, WHO, and medical professionals worldwide, the goal is to increase awareness of, and eliminate viral Hepatitis, a global epidemic affecting millions of people.

Hepatitis is responsible for 1.34 million deaths per year and is considered one of the leading causes of death globally. The Hepatitis B and Hepatitis C viruses are responsible for 80% of liver cancer cases in the world.

With the availability of effective vaccines and treatments for Hepatitis B and an available cure for Hepatitis C, the elimination of viral hepatitis is achievable. For treatment to occur, a greater awareness and understanding of the disease is a must.

Many organizations have joined together to increase awareness of viral Hepatitis by using July 28 as a day to make the public aware of the disease, its consequences, and the cure. Without action, the disease will continue to spread leaving many in its wake.

Increase your awareness of Hepatitis. Visit the Centers of Disease Control website to learn more, and call Careteam+ Family Health and Specialty Care at (843) 234-8238 to determine if you are at risk.
